Domestic abusers told to say sorry to partner by police

Our thanks to Sean for this. Time again we see journalists – almost invariably female journalists – in the mainstream media uncritically link to and cite from reports by radfem organizations such as The Fawcett Society, as if those institutions are credible. Extracts from the piece:

Police are dealing with domestic abuse cases by simply making the abuser say sorry to their partner on the doorstep, a Fawcett Society report has found.

Research by the charity found a “worrying number” of domestic violence incidents are resolved using the most basic level of restorative justice, which “can often be little more than an apology“…

Sam Smethers, chief executive of the Fawcett Society, said the practice left women in a “powerless” position where they are asked to accept their abuser’s apology. [J4MB: Note the implication that all victims of DV are women.]

“You’re not seeing the true nature of the relationship and the true nature of what’s going on. It’s almost certainly going to put her in a very risky position,” she told the Daily Telegraph.

I can see how enraging that must be for false domestic abuse accusers intending to use ‘The Police’ as proxy violence on a man who won’t do as he’s told.

I’ve just has an image in my mind of Bonnie Langford as Violet Elizabeth Bott. Haha smiles all round.

  2. The truth is that most of the DV abuse and “rape” allegations that the Police are called to are in poor and chaotic areas and in chaotic relationships. As any “Bobby” on the beat will attest they frequently deal with “Jeremy Kyle” type situations which are simply not the stuff of neat solutions. Accusations are flung about with abandon and frequently withdrawn as easily. Such “families” will be known to agencies across generations in fact, as the patterns repeat. It is this sort of stuff officers complain of as “social work”.

It’s a big but not grown up girl’s version of getting her brother to beat up boys she dislikes.
