Our thanks to Martin for this. An excerpt:
Martina Viklund, a spokeswoman for the Stockholm transport company SL, confirmed to Guardian Cities that formal complaints had been received about Strömquist’s images, but said SL stood by the decision to exhibit them.
The works are chosen by a committee comprised of SL employees, art consultants and artists. “We do not wish for the work to be offensive in any way,” said Viklund. “But with that being said, we do not have a certain policy regarding different expressions of the naked human body.
“Art is a form of tradition were [sic] the human body has always been a subject for interpretation. By showing art of Liv Strömquist, we wanted to celebrate the human body in all of its shapes and forms.”
Stromquist is firmly in the tradition of talentless and narcissistic female ‘artists’ who rely on shock value to gain publicity. An obvious comparison is with Tracey Emin, the woeful ‘Professor of Drawing’ at The Royal Academy. A chapter in one of my books is titled, “Are some feminists, e.g. Tracey Emin, a pain in the Arts?”
We look forward to an equally talentless male Swedish artist posting pictures of men defecating and urinating, “to celebrate the human body in all of its shapes and forms.”
