Michelle Kershaw, 45, social worker, quit job to become escort, stole from disabled client after he went into hospital. Why is she not in prison today?

Our thanks to Nick for this. Excerpts:

In mitigation, Kerhsaw’s lawyer Liz Ridgeway said: “This is an extremely difficult set of circumstances, especially as this is the first time the defendant has been before the court before…

“She knows this conviction could potentially stop her from getting another job in the social care industry. She is an honest woman [J4MB: Our emphasis] and feels deep shame and remorse…

Sentencing Kershaw, JP Susan Craig told her: “We do feel for your situation but that doesn’t take away from the offence you have committed. This could have been a very different ending and you could have ended up in custody. But neither of us want that. [J4MB: Since when did what criminals ‘want’ have a bearing on their sentencing? And WHY doesn’t Ms Craig ‘want’ to send her to prison? Because vagina, presumably.

  1. anywhere outside the western world, she would be in jail. The men there may not be the gentlemen we are, but at least justice is carried out evenly between the genders. .
