So many disgusting horrible hateful people on the alt-left. And this moron is in a genuine position the influence and power.

She must resign or be fired immediately.
In her position you just can’t go round saying that sort of thing without consequence, and then attempt to dismiss it as some sort of mistake or joke, or else where does it end?
With the same feeble excuse perhaps proffered about whatever has been said, there needs to be a disincentivising consequence or else she has power without responsibility.
Not exactly unknown, I realise.
