At least the reporter manages to use “alleged” and once refers to “rape complainant” rather than tugging on the “victim” heartstrings. Gives one hope that Barristers are concerned at yet another manipulation of our justice system. A process that started way back in the 70s when only the complainant was anonymous.

Which reminds me of a comment on YouTube, seen yesterday, asking why those who have been raped are described as survivors since we don’t describe the victims of other sorts of crime in that way – no assault or mugging or car theft survivors, no identity theft survivors. It’s not as though rape victims have actually survived a dreadful and possibly fatal accident by luck, initiative or sheer determination; most haven’t even been put through any sort of physical ordeal, just had too much to drink and made a choice they subsequently claim to regret.

“Barristers say plans will make it harder for juries to determine the truth”.
That’s the idea surely.

Leading to a lower conviction rate and so requiring the abolition of trial by jury in rape cases.
