Sophie Franklin, 30, office manager, went on £38,000 designer shopping spree with company credit card. Spared jail after a (male) judge says he ‘hates sending women to prison’.

Our thanks to HEqual for this.

  1. “I hate sending to prison women who have not been to prison before.”

If this logic were generally followed it would surely require that no woman would EVER be sent to prison ?

  2. The tradition of the gentleman is a noble one, a great one. But it is not fit to an era of full female emancipation, unfortunately. By continuing to offer the gentleman treatment, men, especially in positions of power, are literally violating the equality laws of the judicial system, and the equality laws in employment by not holding women responsible to the same degree as men. Women, on the other hand, are all too happy to accept the outcome of this scenario, while at the same time demanding equality on all levels. This makes the concerned women dishonest and the men plain dumb. But in the end, it makes the whole society unjust and inefficient. Once women demand equality, men must put aside the gentleman mindsets and hold them responsible to the same degree as men. Reserve the gentleman treatment to the theatre, the movies, the horse races, the ballrooms, but not the court of law or the office. It does not belong there. Time to accept the inevitable.
