Domestic violence against men soars to record levels as number of cases treble in past decade

Our thanks to Nigel for this piece in yesterday’s Sunday Sun. Excerpts:

Domestic violence against men has trebled in the past decade, shocking official figures reveal. [Wrong. The number of convictions has trebled, as more men have reported being victims to the police. The crime remains woefully under-reported, and the police should bring far more prosecutions.]

A record 5,640 wives and girlfriends were convicted of assaulting their male partners last year — up from 1,850 in 2007.

The issue has become a taboo because victims are often too ashamed to talk about their experiences. [Wrong. It hasn’t ‘become’ a taboo, it remains one for most male victims of DV. There are quite a number of reasons men don’t report being a victim of DV – other than shame – some in common with female victims, some unique to men e.g. the lack of available refuge places for men with their children.]

But an MP is now calling for action after evidence emerged the problem is growing at an alarming rate…

Stats released by the Attorney General show 177 women are convicted of domestic abuse EVERY WEEK…

Tory MP Philip Davies, who uncovered the stats, said: “When people think of domestic violence, they automatically think of men abusing women.

“But the vast increase in the number of women convicted of domestic violence over the past decade must not be overlooked.

“We must not forget the male victims.

“Both male and female perpetrators of domestic violence should be dealt with equally harshly by the courts and more should be done to help victims of domestic violence whether they are men or women.”

Then we have this nonsensical claim by the CPS:

Crown Prosecutors insist any form of domestic violence is serious and there is no bias or lack of concern when dealing with male victims.

From a male victim of DV, later in the article:

“The police were unwilling to help and I eventually dropped charges and ended our relationship.”

The article ends with this:

John Mays, the chairman of Parity, which campaigns for equal rights for men and women, said: “In 30 to 40 percent of domestic violence cases men are the victims and in many cases the injuries sustained are very severe.

“One of the great tragedies of male victim domestic violence is that there are very few safe houses for men who are seeking refuge with their children while there are over 9,000 for women.

“This is a problem which needs to be urgently addressed.”

November 2015 – Theresa May MP, Home Secretary, refused to explain why the police are not prosecuting practitioners of MGM

[This post is being re-published at the request of a donor. It was originally published 3.11.15.]

Today we finally received a response from the Home Office in connection with our FOI requests on MGM, sent to Theresa May MP, Home Secretary [currently prime minister]. MGM is unquestionably illegal, as we know from a talk given by a prominent barrister in 2013. Nobody in the government, nor the Crown Prosecution Service, for that matter, has denied that fact when we’ve presented it to them in FOI requests and otherwise.

The Home Office letter was dated 16 October, and for reasons that needn’t detain us, it took a couple of weeks to arrive at our head office. Our FOI requests were:

Given that MGM demonstrably results in bodily harm, and often mental harm, on what grounds are the police declining to press charges against those carrying out the procedures?

Regardless of those grounds, will the government commit publicly to introducing legislation in this parliamentary term (i.e. before May 2020) to make non-therapeutic circumcision of male minors illegal?

With the benefit of hindsight, we should have made the deadline for introducing legislation much earlier.

I’ll focus on the response to the first FOI request in this blog post, bear in mind whilst reading it, that the Home Office has responsibility for the police service:

Your letter was transferred to the Ministry of Justice for a response to your questions and the letter as a whole, as the Ministry of Justice holds policy responsibility for legislation on offences against the person. Our records indicate you were sent a letter from our Departmental Correspondence Unit advising you of this. [I haven’t received this purported letter.]

This is a cynical response, to say the least. I asked why the police aren’t pressing charges against those carrying out MGM. My question had absolutely nothing to do with ‘policy responsibility for legislation on offences against the person’, so it was utterly pointless to pass the matter on to the Ministry of Justice. The bottom line? Theresa May is refusing to engage with a perfectly legitimate FOI request.

It hardly needs to be said, I’m sure, but I haven’t heard from the Ministry of Justice. [10 months on, we have yet to hear from the MoJ.]

British ski jump hero Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards wiped out by divorce settlement, loses £180,000 bio-pic film money‏

Our thanks to Mike for this. An excerpt:

“I thought everything was hunky-dory in my marriage. I went to Germany to do some television work without a clue what was about to happen and when I got home my wife said, ‘Sit down, we need to talk…’” Eddie promptly moved out of the family home and into a shed in the garden of a Cotswolds cottage he bought in 2007.

Gender aware Swedish TV gives kids’ trucks a sex swap

Lunacy in Sweden. SVT is Sweden’s equivalent of the BBC, and obviously as infected with gender ideologues. An excerpt:

Pontus Torpvret, purchasing manager at SVT’s children’s channel Barnkanalen, told Aftonbladet that they chose which characters to change with an eye to giving girls strong role models: “Girls who climb trees, girls who build go-karts, girls who go on adventures. Like girls actually do in real life,” he said.

On which planet do girls climb trees and build go-karts?

In 2014 AVfM published my article on the BBC being a job creation scehem for women, run by women. It has long been a feminist propaganda machine, of course.

Conservative party conference, ICC (Birmingham) – anti-MGM protest, 3/4 October

We’ve just announced that Mike Buchanan will be standing against Theresa May, prime minister, at the 2020 general election. The story is here. One of the reasons for the decision was that during her six years as Home Secretary – with responsibility for the police – she did nothing to protect male minors from the illegal procedure of non-therapeutic circumcision, and she is doing nothing about the matter as prime minister.

The police and CPS remain complicit in failing to bring prosecutions against the people mutilating the genitals of male minors, invariably for personal financial gain.

At last year’s Conservative party conference in Manchester, we created quite a stir with our Male Genital Mutilation (‘MGM’) protests, handing out leaflets, and engaging with a considerable number of conference attendees. A video (3:14) is here.

We plan to make an even bigger impact at the next conference, in Birmingham, in less than two weeks’ time. Some of our placards and leaflets will feature the image at the start of this post, of a distressed baby boy about to suffer the excruciating and illegal assault of genital mutilation.

One of our placard designs with the image is here, while the two sides of one of our leaflets are here and here. We’ll also be taking leaflets produced by Jews Against Circumcision, Brit shalom: A Peaceful Alternative.

Brit shalom is a naming ceremony for newborn Jewish boys. It’s a humanitarian alternative to Brit milah, which involves genital mutilation.

We plan to be outside the conference venue, the ICC, from around 09:00 for the first two full days – Monday 3 / Tuesday 4 October – as near to the main entrance point to the venue as possible. For our exact location, call Mike Buchanan on the day – 07967 026163. We invite you to join us, and if you’re short of funds, we may be able to help with your travel costs to and from Birmingham. Please email Mike (mike@j4mb.org.uk) if you think you might be able to make it, even if it’s for one of the days, or a few hours. Thank you for your support.

DWP slashes funding for disability supported housing and homeless hostels. Women’s refuges exempt.

Our thanks to Bryn for this. An extract:

Though some “specialist” providers, such as women’s refuges, are exempt, other charities have said the changes threaten the future viability of their services for vulnerable people.

Reducing support for homeless hostels must have been an easy decision for the government to take, because almost 90% of the ‘street homeless’ are men. Many are ex-Armed Forces, often with mental health issues such as PTSD. These men often self-medicate with alcohol or other substances, and the NHS won’t treat them until and unless they’ve been ‘dry’ for a long period. Predictably, many commit suicide before they get help, saving the NHS a lot of money. Homelessness reduces people’s like expectancies by an average of 30 years. We covered the issue in our 2015 manifesto (pp.40-5).

Things you’ll know if you’re a woman on the internet

Our thanks to John Kimble at HEqual for this:

Mike,

It’s been a while since I’ve seen any misandry from BBC Three, though I guess no one notices really these days seeing as they went off-air and are online only (which no one watches).

Anyway, I think they’ve outdone their previous efforts this time with an astonishing video about “Things You’ll Know If You’re A Woman On The Internet” – here (4:13).

The misandry and stupidity throughout this entire thing is incredible.

We’ve got the BBC attempting to legitimise a sexist term which simply dismisses any explanation to an issue or any view held by a man simply becasue of his gender. Note it’s not merely the guests using this misandrist term, but the section is headed using that term, meaning the BBC is not merely using it but making it into an actual topic of discussion as if it’s an acceptable term and a legitimate concept.

They say how the best thing about the internet is that it allows you to meet other women. Not people, but women. Before that there’s a segment on trolling/abuse, and most abuse of women of course comes from other women, so they obviously haven’t thought this through.

The best part is perhaps right near the end, when the obese one says: “Say you don’t know something, they can educate you on their narrative and what they’ve been through”. So one minute they don’t want things explaining via the internet, and then the very next they do? Amazing cognitive dissonance.

Note that it’s possible for readers to upvote or downvote the video, the score is already terrible of course, though perhaps still to completely reflective of how messed up the piece is.
