Shortly after 09:00 today I’ll be taking part in a discussion on Stephen Jardine’s show on BBC Radio Scotland, concerning the revelation yesterday that members of Muirfield golf club in Scotland had voted to keep women from becoming club members. Our blog piece on the matter is here. The topline question being asked will be:
Are you embarrassed by the decision?
I invite you to call in with your thoughts, the number is 0500 929500.
You can listen to BBC Radio Scotland through this link, click on ‘Listen live’, and don’t forget to turn off your computer (or radio) if you get through to speak.
I look forward to hearing your views. We’ll be posting a link to the full programme, including the phone-in.
What price democracy, eh? Only allowed if the vox populi says what the Left liberal elite wants it to!
Originally private members clubs were exempt from the gender equality legislation in terms of whom they admitted to membership and in my view that should have not changed – and nor should the small organisations’ exemption, which incidentally remains in the US.
I can’t help but wonder, though, in voting for “no women”, were the Muirfield membership really voting to retain restrictions on the presence of young children?

Interesting that Clare Balding should refuse to present the golf from Muirfield because of their stance on admitting women as members.

Would this be the same Clare Balding who attended Newnham College, Cambridge, which refuses to admit men as students?
