90% of street homeless people are men. Worthing Council wants to criminalise them. Please sign an online petition.

Street homelessness reduces life expectancy by an average of 30 years, and about 90% of street homeless people are men. We covered the issue of homelessness in our 2015 general election manifesto (pp.40-5). Our thanks to a number of people for pointing us towards a petition. Please join us in signing it, which will only take you a moment. Thank you.

Game of Crones: Reign of the Drama Queens

An interesting piece by Doug Mortimer, an American. An extract:

For the record, here’s the manifesto from Howl Round, a website which pertains to all things theatrical:

“We can envision a near future in which all American Theatre seasons are overflowing with works written and directed by women.

We can conceive of the myriad outstanding plays by people of color and Native artists being produced nationwide.

We can foresee LBGTQIA creators hired to write, direct, and choreograph in every theater in the United States of America.

We can anticipate artists with disabilities in every role the theater has to offer, onstage and off.

We plan to celebrate this vision with a Jubilee year in 2020, in which every theater in the United States of America produces only works by women, people of color, artists of varied physical and cognitive ability, and/or LGBTQA artists.”

Interesting to note that even these people are confused by the proliferation of gender identities, as they first say LBGTQIA, and then LGBTQA. Thanks to Urban Dictionary for bringing me up to date by defining “I” and “A” as “intersexual” and “asexual.”  “Intersexual” was a new one on me, but it seems to be a neologism meaning hermaphroditism. Nothing like old wine in new bottles for seeing through a glass darkly. Of course, by the time 2020 gets here, that LBGTQIA acronym will surely be larger. (Guinness, take note: the result should occur in the world’s longest horizontal eye chart!)

Change of policy on still photography at the conference

We recently conducted a poll of conference attendees in relation to a possible relaxation of the policy on still photography, video recording, and audio recording in the Conference venue. After reviewing the responses, we’ve decided to withdraw the restriction on still photography, with some provisos. The new policy is on pp.4,5 of the new edition of the Booking terms which has just been posted onto the conference website. The policy is also accessible on the menu tab relating to this area, here.

The restrictions on video and audio recording in the Conference venue remain in place.

If you haven’t already subscribed to the conference website, I urge you to do so now, by entering your email address in the box near the top of the column on the right. You’ll then get automatic notification of new announcements, including the expected announcements of one or two exciting new additions to the speaker list shortly.

Please feel free to email me (mike@j4mb.org.uk) if you have any queries over this matter. Thank you.

Janet Bloomfield: No trans in the ladies cans

Nailed, in Janet’s unique style (video, 9:57).

Janet’s a very beautiful woman – Mr Bloomfield must surely be an exceptionally happy man – but while the soft-focus of her home-recorded videos may have an appeal for some, I do wish she’d buy a hi-res webcam, such as the one our IT department currently mandates for all employees’ computers at our global headquarters in Bedford, Bedfordshire, the Logitech C270 high-definition webcam.

The device is priced in Canada – where JB lives with her family in the woods, in a house with a large collection of hunting rifles, and a small room crammed to the ceiling with ammunition – at just CAN$45.07. If necessary, J4MB will launch  a global crowdfunder to fund the thing.

Janet will be talking on the subject of ‘How Feminism Infantilizes Women’ at the London conference. The list of 23 speakers is here. You can order your ticket(s) here.

Melanie Phillips: ‘Circumcision of Jewish boys at eight days old… causes no harm or suffering whatsoever’

One of the talks people are most looking forward to at the London conference is Tim Hammond’s update of findings from his Global Survey of Circumcision Harm (video, 49:31).

In 19 days time, 12 May, we’ll be protesting against MGM in Golders Green, North London. Details on that protest, and the protests in June outside the Home Office and the Head Office of the NSPCC, are here.

Melanie Phillips is a British Jewish journalist, author, and public commentator. A few days ago I sent a friendly message to her through her website, offering her a complimentary ticket to the conference, and a few hours ago I received this response:

Your campaign against circumcision for Jewish boys at eight days old not only displays utter ignorance, since this causes no harm or suffering whatsoever, but it targets the fundamental rite of Jewish identity. It is thus profoundly anti-Jew.

Do not contact me again.

An irony will not be lost on followers of this blog, of course, the claim that circumcision of Jewish boys at eight days old ’causes no harm or suffering whatsoever’ itself ‘displays utter ignorance’. Sometimes the cleverest people can be wilfully blind to matters which they should research before expressing a view on them.
