This month’s Lying Feminist of the Month award has been presented to Jane Humphries, Professor of Economic History at the University of Oxford, for a ridiculous assertion on the Today programme about the ‘glass ceiling’. Her certificate is here:
Month: December 2015
Responses to Vera Baird’s posters
Our thanks to John for pointing us to this.
Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh, SNP MP, branded ‘pathetic’ after comparing women’s rights in Westminster and Iran
Our thanks to David for this. He writes:
Hi Mike – more nonsense from Scotland, from a female politician who ticks all the boxes. She was previously a Conservative PPC, but then decided the SNP would give her privilege way beyond her talent.
Her Wikipedia page is here. From the section on her political career:
Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh was active in the Scottish Conservative Party from the age of 10 and a member from 16. She was chairperson of Edinburgh Central Young Conservatives and deputy spokeswoman for the party on women and family issues and equal opportunities. She stood as the party’s candidate in Glasgow Govan in the 1999 Scottish Parliament election, where she came in third place with 2,343 votes (8.88%).
During the election, she was paraded as the bright new face of Scottish Conservatism. She ran her campaign on family life, law and order, health and education, and spoke against the SNP pledge to increase taxes. She also attacked Alex Salmond’s criticism of NATO’s involvement in the Kosovo War, saying his description of the intervention as “unpardonable folly” was “hopelessly naive” and he should hang his “head in shame”.
She said that Salmond’s comments exposed “the stark truth” about him, that “he is hopelessly out of his depth in the arena of real politics, national, and international”.
In 2000, she resigned from the Conservatives in response to William Hague’s “right wing” pronouncements on asylum seekers. She declared that she would join the Scottish National Party, and was welcomed as a ‘defector’. [Note: This was just a year after she had declared Alex Salmond “hopelessly out of his depth…”. A woman of principle, clearly.] Salmond said he was “glad she has joined the party”. [Note: A man of principle, clearly.]
She is the founder and chair of the Scottish Asian Women’s Association… blah, blah, blah…
Art world must iron out ‘anomaly’ which leaves women ‘woefully undervalued’
Our thanks to Mike for pointing us to a truly woeful piece by a female journalist (what are the chances?) in the Telegraph.
The winter edition of a magazine published by Bonham’s, an auction house, states this:
It is a truth now universally acknowledged that women artists, both dead and living, are woefully undervalued.
Universally acknowledged? I think not.
How would such an analysis work out in another open market, if professional football clubs were required by law to consider female players as well as male players for their teams? The overwhelming majority of players – if not all of them – would be male, and paid (on average) a great deal more than female players (on average). Given a feminist analysis, that pay gap would be an ‘anomaly’ which left female players ‘woefully undervalued’.
The Law of Supply and Demand – it’s a problem, isn’t it?
Here’s an idea. I keep reading that 70-80% of money spent with retailers is spent by women, although women collectively earn less than 30% of income earned in the UK. Where are these women getting the rest of their money from? It’s a mystery, and that’s a fact. Why don’t these women start pooling their money and buying works by prominent female artists, thereby driving the prices up, so those artists are no longer ‘woefully undervalued’? How difficult could that be? More difficult than whining, certainly…
Louise Detain – Gormless Feminist of the Month
We thank Louise Detain for emailing us a Xmas gift last night, nominating herself for a Gormless Feminist of the Month award, whilst also providing a link to a Lying Feminist of the Month award winner – Melanie Jeffs, Manager, Nottingham Women’s Centre.
Details of why Ms Detain won her award are on her award certificate (below). It relates to one of many feminist lies which simply won’t die, regardless of how often we and others disprove them.
Roger Scruton explains the current state of academia
Roger Scruton is a highly regarded English conservative philosopher. Our thanks to Kevin for this (video, 4:02).
Vera Baird QC facing probe after awarding more than £500,000 of taxpayers’ money to the charity she runs with Sue Sim, Chief Constable, Northumbria Police
Our thanks to Ian for pointing us to a piece published in April 2015.
Merry Xmas… from Vera Baird QC
Vera Baird QC is a particularly odious feminist, and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria. We’ve publicly called for her resignation a number of times, last January for an ideologically motivated misleading poster campaign about domestic violence and rape, in the Newcastle Metro – here – which cost taxpayers almost £16,000.
Our thanks to John for pointing us to two posts on the official Northumbria Police Facebook page today – here and here. He’s archived them for posterity, here and here.
That’s the next Toxic Feminist of the Month award winner sorted…
Alison Saunders’s response to our FOI request is now NINE weeks overdue
Alison Saunders, Director of Public Prosecutions, failed to respond by the required deadline to our FOI request asking for minutes of meetings she’s had since she took on her role, with organizations advocating for victims of domestic and/or sexual abuse. Her response is now NINE weeks overdue.
Our letter to Ms Saunders is here. We’ll publish a post each week on the delay, and email the Crown Prosecution Service each time, until we get a response.
Old Girls at £34,000-a-year Roedean say they don’t want boys admitted after head threatened to overturn centuries of tradition at single-sex school
Our thanks to Ray for this. Female hypocrisy over the gendered nature of institutions knows no bounds. The Scouts admit girls, the Guides won’t admit boys. The YMCA admits women, the YWCA won’t admit men. Men’s clubs are expected to admit women, while women’s clubs are proud to exclude men. And now, while elite boys’ schools – Eton, Harrow, and others – are being pressed to admit girls, Roedean alumnae seek to stop the school admitting boys.
Women should be ashamed of themselves.
Increasingly, they are.
