Our public challenge of Kate Smurthwaite, feminist ‘comedienne’

Three days ago I was a contributor to a show on BBC Radio Ulster, The Stephen Nolan Show. Also on the show was Kate Smurthwaite, a feminist ‘comedienne’ who – like all such women – is as funny as a dislocated shoulder. The BBC is introducing gender quotas for panel programmes, so we’ll see more of women like her. Joy. Our YouTube clip of the exchange is here. It’s already received 50+ comments, 50+ upvotes, and no downvotes.

After the programme, Ms S posted this on her Facebook page:

Here’s me on BBC Ulster with Mike Buchanan from the anti-feminist party lot. To be honest more shocking is the way we’re introduced with references to “whiny feminists” and “has the pendulum swung too far?”. No, Stephen, while women are still a tiny minority in the corridors of power and two a week are murdered by their male partner or ex-partner, the pendulum has not “swung too far”.

Hilarious. My sides are splitting. Of course Dr Catherine Hakim’s Preference Theory (2000) explains why a minority of senior politicians (and business people, Nobel Prize winners etc.) are women, but let’s focus on this gem:

…two (women) a week are murdered by their male partner or ex-partner…

Yes, it’s the long-discredited claim that led to both Caroline Criado-Perez and Special Snowflake being presented with ‘Lying Feminist of the Month’ awards. Why do feminists keep handing us these gifts? If we had the spare time we could present them with ‘Lying Feminist of the Day’ awards.

In a moment I’ll send a link to this piece to Ms S’s Twitter account @Cruella1. Our challenge:

Kate, the latest government statistics of which J4MB is aware showed that 75 women  were killed by male partners or ex-partners during the year in question – nearer ‘one per week’ than ‘two per week’, unless in Femland there are 37.5 weeks in the year? The idea that the number says anything other than men tend to be stronger than women, and more likely to have access to firearms, is one of countless feminist myths.

The number has declined by around 25% in 10 years. These deaths were attributable to both murder and manslaughter, while you refer only to murder.

Even Vera Baird dissociated herself from the ‘two women a week’ claim in 2010, when she was a Labour MP, shortly before being booted out of office by her electors. We recently called for her resignation as PCC for Northumbria.

We publicly challenge you to provide evidence to back up your assertion ‘… two (women) a week are murdered by their male partner or ex-partner… ‘ by 5pm February 7, and if you fail to do so, we’ll present you with a well-deserved ‘Lying Feminist of the Month’ award. Have a nice day.

About Mike Buchanan

I'm a men's human rights advocate, writer, and publisher. My primary focus is leading the political party I launched in 2013, Justice for Men & Boys (and the women who love them). I still work actively on two campaigns I launched in early 2012, Campaign for Merit in Business and the Anti-Feminism League. In 2014 I launched The Alternative Sexism Project, aiming to raise public understanding that the sexism faced by men and boys has far more grievous consequences than the sexism faced by women and girls.

  • Hi Mike

Great stuff, but how about a public challenge to Chris Williamson MP for Derby North who characterised your Men’s Rights Party as ‘The Monster Raving Loony Party’?

He needs to be challenged publicly on what he is doing for male victims of DV and for divorced fathers who have been denied access to their kids, in his constituency.

    • You wouldn’t have guessed it from his high anti-male performance, but he did at least sign the Shared Parenting EDM: http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2013-14/210

It’s quite a surprising list because there more than a few Labour names on there but almost no Conservatives. perhaps they have their own rival version?

  • This woman is a demonstrably pathologically angry person. That is abundantly clear from her posturing performance on air that did nothing to enhance her image. It is also apparent from her demeanour generally on the media, and in her stage performances. It seems to me. her choice of the pseudonym Cruella on Twitter gives it all away. It’s all very Freudian. Then there is the unrestrained entitlement she showed in demanding ‘You take that caller off air Stephen, or I hang up!’ when a male caller used the term ‘darling’ to her. I mean who does she think she is? Ordering people around like that? Telling others what words they can or cannot use?

Everyone knows that anger temporarily blinds people, but pathological anger makes those suffering from it lose touch with reality. That is demonstrable in Smurthwaite’s own conduct, which caused her to use the term ‘murder’ on her FaceBook account. That is her real downfall. She must have enough intelligence to know that all homicides are not murder. That is why the official figures always refer to ‘homicides’ or the simple word ‘killing’ because not all killings are culpable murder.

As far as the ridiculous repetition of the ‘two women a week’ favourite feminist factoid is concerned, well, it has been so publicly challenged and discredited for so long her use of it leaves no doubt that she was acting in blind, arrogant anger when she threw it out into the social media. What an angry foolish act.

And just in case she or anybody is in any doubt about how wrong this piece of feminist disinformation is, just watch the first fifteen seconds of her sister radfem Vera Baird cutting the ground right out from under her feet in this House of Commons committee statement, which has been in the public domain since January 2010: http://news.bbc.co.uk/democracylive/hi/house_of_commons/newsid_8471000/8471264.stm

You would have thought that this would-be, sharp-as-a-razor feminist warrior, ‘Cruella’ Smurthwaite, would have been sharp enough to ensure her armoury of ‘statistics’ was at least up-to-date. Frankly, I cannot believe she is doesn’t know the truth. I think the repetition of this lie by her and all her equally angrily blind campaigning radfem sisters in the sisterhood, shows they know the truth but remain prepared to spread lies about men. Presumably they believe the general public will never check it out. Well, people are checking it out, and they are now watching the output of these angry women who are spreading their lies and male hatred. Normal decent people – particularly men – are no longer prepared to have them go unchecked. Their lies and atrocious attitudes will be challenged and called out every single step of the way.

The test of Smurthwaite will be whether she has the humility to accept that she is wrong, and the maturity and decency to put the record straight, as you invite her to do. Somehow I doubt whether she will do that. Pathological anger is a very blinding thing.

  • Doing a quick Google check, I found out that murder rate in the UK is 653.

So even if the false stat of 2 women a week getting killed is true so what? That still means less women get killed than men.

Debating with a feminist like her…you’d be better off banging your head against a wall for half an hour! Seriously, what a freaking joke she was! The more I witness the tripe these selfish, bigoted, entitlement princesses come out with, the more I am reaching toward a conclusion that feminists are nothing more than jealous, controlling, manipulative bullies who want to remove all pleasure and comfort from men in favour of women reaping all of life’s pleasures. Pure and simple!

Mike, take a look around and you’ll see that there is far, far more objectification of men in the media. I do wish you’d point this out in your interviews. This has exactly the same effect on boys as it does for girls and yet men don’t moan, cry and whinge about it like women do because men aren’t programmed to be as sensitive as women. Feminists understand men’s reluctance to complain and thus take advantage of their lack of sensitivity using social, collaborative attacks which remove male pleasures – pleasures which clearly don’t align with the female jealousy warpath. At root level, quite simply, it’s all a whole bunch of bullying tactics being employed by feminists – tactics which appear to be covertly supported by everyday women based on a measure of their consenting silence. Yes, I guess everyday female folk just go along for the ride.

I have seen a steady rise in complaints about male objectification on the net and if I’m honest I wish there were successful campaigns based around reasons of true equality to eradicate male-bashing advertising (which women secretly love) and other male-related objectification which appeals to women, such as the diet coke ads, and stuff of that ilk! Every other advert these days seems to have half-naked men parading around for the titillation of female viewers and I don’t see feminists complaining about that or indeed underage male singers and actors who are stripped to the waste and objectified at all hours of the day and in every corner of the media you look! Typical feminist bullying tactics – all take but not give!!

Go give it ’em Mike, another great interview, but I bet your head hurts by now!
