Abused boys are children, abused girls are girls. Abused men are people, abused women are women.

I’m sick to death of headlines referring to boys who have been subjected to atrocities as ‘children’, under circumstances when girls would be referred to as ‘girls’. Likewise men referred to as ‘people’, when women would be referred to as ‘women’. This story is a particularly blatant example of the phenomenon.

  1. Same today on the BBC – Nigeria school blast in Potiskum kills dozens – for most of the article the 100% boy victims are called children or students. The original title used “46 students killed”. Yes they used quotes meaning they could of accidentally died or something. This is the same day the BBC admit they voted not to have the Royal British Legion charity song on the Radio 1 and 2 playlist. Men’s charities for injury soldiers are not important it would appear, especially on a hundred year anniversary of the first world war and for the returning heroes from Afghanistan.
