Polly Neate has responded speedily to the public challenge we made of her yesterday – but as expected, it’s a derisory response. This is our exchange of emails so far, if any more exchanges happen we’ll add them to this post.

PN: Thank you for your email. I will bear your thoughts in mind.

MB: Polly, thank you, but I have no idea what you mean by that. Are you, or are you not, prepared to formally respond to this challenge?

PN: I think I’ve already made Women’s Aid’s position clear in public, on Woman’s Hour and elsewhere.

MB: Thank you Polly. So one of your spokeswomen lies and makes a misleading statement and your response is to do precisely NOTHING?

  1. The problem is she does not need to reply. The media are not going to question her or her organisation. She knows if she keeps quiet nothing bad will happen for her but it will keep happening to the sufferers of DV that do not get the correct help, if any help at all due to organisations like her’s.

    What matters the most to me in this situation, is that at least you Mike are forcing her to look at her conscience, and let her finally know that others have different views and approaches to really tackle the problem of DV, to help both men and women.

  2. I didn’t see Sandra Horley of REFUGE on this. I would expect much the same stuff from her. It’s probably too much to hope REfUGE got a conscience. I know it must feel hopeless fighting the well entrenched giants in this area. However Women’s Aid’s reaction , noting that funders are in some areas insisting services are offered to men, shows that gradually statutory bodies are getting beyond the ideology to the real data. Please all keep pushing Police, Local Authorities, The new Police Commissioners on this issue. Write to the elected officials, complain or aim a Freedomof Information “FOI” request to press them all on what they are doing for men in the light of the ONS data and research Mike has brought together.
