“Operatives” One of the nasty little frauds of the modern age is the use of “gender neutral” terms. A particular instance is the replacement of signs on bin trucks and others warning “men working” at the rear of the vehicle. Now on many such vehicles “men” have been replaced by “Operatives”. To me it’s just a de-humanising term for the men in the glass cellar, upon whom we rely to keep our comfy world going. Are there any female operatives emptying our bins or tarring our roads?
