Independent Women’s Forum video on the gender pay gap
[Note added 9.5.14: this piece has just been published on AVfM:
Not having heard of the American organisation Independent Women’s Forum http://iwf.org until an hour or two ago – when I put a link to a free downloadable book they published in 2002 – I’m quickly becoming a fan. A donor’s just pointed me to a 3-minute video they produced last year on the gender pay gap (link below). It’s addressed to women, but both men and women will enjoy it, I think. I’ve just subscribed to their YouTube channel:
Independent Women’s Forum: ‘Lying in a Room of One’s Own – How Women’s Studies Textbooks Miseducate Students’
We thank Charlotte, a regular donor to J4MB, for bringing this to our attention. We hadn’t heard of the American organisation Independent Women’s Forum http://iwf.org before, but on the basis of one book alone (link below) they’re going onto our list of recommended websites and blogs, now about 250-strong. The book was written by Christine Stolba and published in 2002.

The Maria Miller expenses scandal
Maria Miller MP – Culture Secretary, Minister for Women and Equalities – is, by all accounts, a woefully incompetent minister. But there are so few female Conservative MPs who could be considered for cabinet positions that, predictably, David Cameron didn’t fire her when she was found to have fiddled her expenses. Indeed he gave her public support even before he’d received the final report on the matter.
We’ve considered presenting him with this year’s ‘Toady of the Year’ award – he won it in 2012 and 2013 – but we’re saving that for when he ‘reluctantly’ introduces all-women PPC shortlists for the 2015 general election, as he surely will, following Labour’s lead. In the autumn of 2009 he announced his intention to introduce these shortlists for the 2010 general election, prompting me (along with others) to cancel my party membership. The legislation allowing political parties to use all-women shortlists was introduced by Harriet Harman MP. The day after Cameron’s announcement I started work on my book David and Goliatha: David Cameron – heir to Harman?
Miller barely co-operated with the inquiry into her expenses fiddling, and got away with paying less than £6,000 back to the taxpayer, and making a perfunctory 30-second apology in the House of Commons. The woman has no shame, and in keeping her in the cabinet, Dave shows yet again that he has none either, his sole motivator being self-preservation. To my mind he’s the least principled prime minister – from any political party – in the past century.
Amanda Platell’s short piece on the Miller expenses scandal in today’s Daily Mail:
A nationwide postering campaign in Canada
We look forward to the day we see postering campaigns like this in the UK:
AVfM’s Dean Esmay chats with Karen Straughan (‘GirlWritesWhat’) in Toronto
This is a gem. Two of the most important people in the global MHRM (men’s human rights movement) chewing the fat in Toronto. Enjoy:
Limbless man tries to scale the Matterhorn
In 1999, mountaineer Jamie Andrew lost his hands and feet to frostbite after being stranded in a blizzard in the French Alps. He later had the ambition to scale the Matterhorn. I don’t have the words to do justice to the ensuing story, so I ask you to watch this:

Men pull a woman out of the shit… again
Our thanks to a number of supporters for sending us links to this story. We weren’t going to feature it, but VG sent a link along with the suggested title, ‘Men pull a woman out of the shit… again’, and we simply couldn’t resist. Enjoy:

Victor Zen responds to a ‘nice’ feminist
I’m busy today preparing for a 20-minute TV appearance tomorrow, but AVfM has published a new video piece by Victor Zen. Now it will be a sad day when I’m too busy to watch a newly-published VZ video, so I’ve just watched it. It’s up to his customary high standard, and worth watching all the way through (23:19). He has a talent for dissecting feminist arguments to a degree not many MHRAs can. There’s very occasional strong language, but so long as you can get through that, you’ll enjoy this:
Rhiannon Brooker, 30, trainee barrister, cried rape 11 times, landing her boyfriend behind bars for 30 days in a bid to get out of taking law exams
Our thanks to VG for this story:
The case continues, and we shall be astonished if her punishment is proportionate to her crimes. It should include a lengthy prison sentence, but won’t. With her legal background she must have known that if she were caught, as a woman she won’t face appropriate punishment. Women very rarely do.
Little sympathy is shown in the article for her boyfriend, who spent 30 days behind bars. What compensation will he get for the ordeal he’s been put through by this vile woman? None, probably. What compensation will the taxpayer get for funding the police time and resources, and court resources, required to process this case? None, certainly.
