In an interesting and powerful piece Jenni Murray interviews ‘Bill’, a survivor of child sex abuse, at length. Then she interviews Claire Lilley of NSPCC, and there’s also an interesting contribution from Dr Jackie Turton of Essex University. Claire Lilley reveals that of the children reporting sexual abuse to the NSPCC ‘Childline’ helpline, 17% report they’re being sexually abused by women. In 60% of those cases, the sexual abuse was being carried out by the children’s mothers, and a large majority of the children being sexually abused by their mothers are boys.

Justice for Men & Boys 
The absolute last taboo! I’ve come to know many male survivors in Australia over the years primarily through group gatherings led by Mike Lew. I went into this expecting to hear about mostly male perpetration. It actually turned out to be a bit more “equal opportunity” than I’d anticipated. Startlingly so in fact, particularly where maternal abuse is concerned. I’ve learned that about the most dangerous domestic situation in which a young boy can be is that of being the youngest in a household AND the only male.
