“Overdue reforms to protect women [J4MB emphasis] and meet the needs of modern relationships as the government continues to prioritise tackling VAWG and working people.”

Another extract:

“Justice Minister Baroness Levitt KC, said:    

Financial independence should be afforded to everybody – not just those who choose to marry or enter into a civil partnership.

Too many women [J4MB emphasis – so, ‘everybody’ other than men] who have suffered the horrors of domestic abuse [J4MB emphasis – allegedly, another pot of gold for dishonest women and their lawyers] are left destitute at the end of a relationship because they’ve been denied the rights they deserve. The outcome of our consultation will be a system which celebrates choice, autonomy, and tradition in equal measure.”

The CONsultation will launch on June 5 and run for 10 weeks, closing on August 14. In common with all consultations on gendered matters, seeking to influence what the government plans to do will be an exercise in utter futility. One inevitable consequence will be that huge numbers of men currently co-habiting with women will wish they’d stopped co-habiting before the introduction of the legislation. I should not be in the least surprised if the legislation covers formerly co-habiting couples.

It will have a similar dissenting, no-holds-barred mission, principled and informed.

From July 19 the TCW site will become a member-only archive, i.e. it will be behind a paywall. We hope to be able to give current recurring and recent generous ‘one off’ donors a free login to access any of the 26,000-plus archive of articles, an extraordinary chronicle of dissent over the last 12 years.

“Daryl Berman told police that David Berman, 84, had stumbled while he took a lunch tray into the kitchen of their home in Prestwich, Bury, on 13 March last year. [J4MB: The chances of a knife on a tray being at the necessary angle to the heart after a stumble, and being driven into the chest with the necessary force to kill, are miniscule.]

Berman, 72, claimed her husband of 27 years had said, “It’s OK, I slipped” before she heard a groan and she ran in to discover him face down and covered in blood…

Officers spoke to Berman on the driveway of her home and she said: “You don’t think I murdered him do you?”

She was said to be “very calm and matter of fact”, the prosecution said, and also had little blood on her, despite stating she had rolled Mr Berman over…

Sentencing Berman to a life term, Judge Tina Landale told her: “It appears something happened between you where David went to the floor and you stabbed him in the chest with severe force.

“You have never given a truthful account of what happened. I am satisfied something must have happened to cause you to lose your patience or temper and begin to attack David with the knife you had earlier used to prepare your lunch.

“Whatever the trigger was is unknown.

“I am sure you immediately regretted what you had done [J4MB: How can the (female) judge be ‘sure’? The killer’s calmness suggests otherwise.] and tried to help him and called for an ambulance, and followed instructions to resuscitate him.

“I am satisfied that you did not intend to kill David, [J4MB: How can the judge be ‘satisfied’?] rather your intent was that he suffer really serious bodily harm.”

The judge added: “This was a domestic incident [J4MB: The murder of a souse is a ‘domestic incident’?] against a background of a decades-long happy marriage.”

Interesting (Telegraph,£). The start of the piece:

“Cancer screening chiefs have been accused of a “betrayal of trust” after refusing to consider breakthrough evidence on the benefits of prostate tests.

Five weeks ago, the UK National Screening Committee (UKNSC) recommended tight rationing of prostate cancer screening to just a few thousand men, to the dismay of campaigners and charities.

However, the committee, which advises ministers, insisted that its modelling would remain “open” so that significant new research could be “fed in as it arrives”.

The first major test of that promise came last week, when research from Sweden found that the Stockholm3 blood test could overcome one of the biggest obstacles to prostate cancer screening by detecting dangerous cancers twice as accurately as current methods.

Experts said the findings could represent “the breakthrough for prostate cancer screening that we have all been waiting for”, allowing thousands more lives to be saved while reducing unnecessary treatment.

However, The Telegraph understands the committee will not review this evidence until autumn 2027.”
