Former Employees of Refuge Warn of “Toxic” Culture at Domestic Violence Charity

Our thanks to David for bringing this to our attention.

David writes: “This has all been buried up but ultra feminist organisation Refuge, were complained against to the Charity Commission about the toxic culture at work. They run the National Domestic Abuse Helpline no less (they receive £250,000 per year from the Home Office) and a large number of local council and other contracts.

A charity set up to help women bullied by their partners becomes a feminist organisation and then is itself an organisation that bullies its own staff and is deemed as toxic.

Oh, the irony.”

Michael Kimmel. Just another Harvey Weinstein #MeToo

Paul Elam’s thoughts on the allegations against Michael Kimmel.

William Collins’ thoughts on this piece:

”We need to adopt the same sceptical stance towards unsubstantiated #MeToo accusations against Kimmel as against anyone else. Justice does not depend upon whether you happen to agree with the accused’s opinions.

This is the reaction I was concerned about.

Sargon did a rather stunning video some time back (and I’m not actually a great fan normally) which listed a huge catalogue of male feminists who have a history of sexual harassment (or, at least, accusations – not sure which in all cases). So there may be something to be explored here – e.g., are male feminists actually more likely to be harassers?

An interesting question, but not one easily answered because of the need to filter out false accusations, which is always  difficult. And it would have to be approached statistically, not on the basis of individuals.

Having said that, Paul does write – rightly –

“the proper thing to do here is to point out that the charges are not proven (and they aren’t), that Kimmel is entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence (which he is) and that despite his longstanding professional efforts to minimize the problem of false allegations, they are a very real thing (and they are). It is proper, also, to question the very foundation of the accusation’s weight; whether asking another adult to sleep with you, if it even happened, is harassment.”

Liam Allan to lead a fight for anonymity for those accused of rape and sexual assault

The new group – founded by Allan and Annie Brodie Aker, a Sheffield University law student – Innovation of Justice “wants anonymity for suspects until charged, erasure from the internet of information about those who are acquitted or told they have no case to answer, and compensation for anyone imprisoned due to false testimony or botched cases.” according to reporting in The Express.

The are planning to hold conferences in Manchester, Sheffield, Cardiff and London this year.

What SPLC Won’t Let Me Say

I have been trying to respond to the SPLC mention of ICMI in their Hate in Europe: July 2018 report since early yesterday.

Having finally given up hope that they will allow it, I will publish it here:

Hi, SPLC. I am the Director of Communications of Justice for Men & Boys (and the women who love them) and I noticed that you failed to mention our name as the other co-organiser, along with AVfM. Since we put a lot of work into organising this conference, it would be appreciated if you would amend the report to include us.

For any uninitiated readers: I can clarify that the event was nothing to do with hate. It was actually emblematic of the higher level of compassion that the Men’s Human Rights community embodies. As such, the speakers included a number of male victims (of a murder plot, of Domestic Violence, of stalking, of false allegations) giving presentations in which calls were made for truth and justice and equality of treatment with female victims. There were critiques of feminism too, my speech included, as feminism is a genuine hate movement that stands in the way of equality in many societies. It is true that Oliver suggested that ethno-nationalists could be some kind of allies to our movement – this suggestion was challenged from the floor however, as was Eric Anderson’s suggestion that feminists could be our allies. Funny how you chose to mention one and not the other.

Videos of the talks are currently being released on the YT channel An Ear for Men.
