British companies need a ‘genuine culture change’ to get rid of alpha males and promote women, say ministers

Our thanks to Mike P for this link.

What have alpha males ever done for business?

Ministers John Glen and Victoria Atkins have called for “greater diversity” in the workplace, adding that companies should “call out” non-inclusive behaviour.

They particularly highlighted the “woefully low” number of women in senior jobs the City, which is both “morally wrong” and affects the sector’s productivity.

The equality game rests on lobbyists ability to convince people that the inequality that they care about is the most intolerable. Glen and Atkins believe that the inequality of outcome seen with different demographics justifies inequalities (in the core liberal values) of treatment and opportunity.

The measure that they’re suggesting – to provide specific support for women is immoral. Their suggestion that companies should encourage less commitment in their workforce (concentrating on flexible working and apparently decoupling bonuses from performance) seems untenable and is certainly unfair.

Penguin pop-up feminist lit’ shop torn down in Topshop

Our thanks to Mike P. for this link.

The Oxford Street shop, that has previously sold feminist t-shirts, decided that this display was too controversial. As you can see in the link above, the move provoked a backlash from big name feminists and the store has donated a significant sum to a feminist organisation and reaffirmed their commitment to the feminist cause.

Battle of Ideas, London, 13/14 October

The Battle of Ideas is coming to The Barbican this month, on the weekend of the 13th and 14th of October. The event takes over the entire facility and fills it with talks and debates on a wide range of subjects. I have been twice and have found the quality of arguement consistently high.

Of particular interest may be the debate on religious freedom that mentions MGM in the description, as well as panels involving Sophie Walker, Julie Burchill, Julie Bindel, Ella Whelan, Joanna Williams and Helen Pluckrose (of the hoax grievance studies papers). I’m most looking forward to seeing Lionel Shriver in conversation, author of the uncompromising piece we shared recently from The Times, Men should be angrier about #MeToo.

Mike and I will both be there, attending events, and there are opportunities to socialise in the Garden Room after each day. Let us know if you’re coming (you can reach me at elizabeth@j4mb.org.uk).

Emmerdale: All-female cast in International Women’s Day episode

…it remains to be seen whether the show will draw an all-female audience! Maybe it already does?

A fairly good gimmick, I think, and harmless fun – if they resist pushing a feminist narrative. Would be pleased to see similar on Men’s Day… Or any kind of media coverage at all.

More details at the BBC.

Sargon – ‘Punished Kavanaugh Reveals the Dark Heart of the Left’

“This is the pinnacle of the #MeToo movement. This is it. To get a man (who there is no evidence against) to be condemned because of the allegation of a woman. This is the absolute goal of the #MeToo movement, to make it so a single allegation can be uncritically believed anywhere at anytime, even reaching to the highest level of government… It doesn’t matter, this has got to be a weapon that any woman can use at anytime that she feels like it.

“That is the kind of raw, unfiltered and unchallengeable power that the left want to imbue into women – and I’m telling you that is a f**king scary thought.”

Great video – particularly the clip of Lindsey Graham’s impassioned comments from the hearing. (34:12).
