  1. https://ifstudies.org/blog/what-happens-when-young-men-arent-working-everyone-suffers. This sets out the problem. But still pursues a “feminist” solution. Which is to “help” the males get secure jobs. But of course like feminism it sits on an ideology of consumption. Presuming that well paid jobs will somehow be “provided”. Without any notion about how. Well of course these jobs are being done still, all those things we consume are made somewhere. Just not here. The Trump administration addresses production by using trade and tariff deals to stimulate the return of key strategic industries and reduces the drag on innovation through regulation and social policy demands (DEI) that Labour is increasing here. As clear an indication of this failure here is Starmer returning from China trip lauding as a success Astra Zeneca investing £100s millions in new factories in China. In the same week as the same company announced a factory closure on Merseyside. Quite probably good for shareholders (and no doubt good for my pension fund) but not mindful of either strategic considerations of relying for important medicines on production on the other side of the world nor the importance of skilled well paid workers to the economy as a whole and families in particular.

Feminism is the ultimate ideology of consumption. It simply has no concept of how “the cake” gets made only that women should be “provided” with ever bigger slices. As if the cake will always be there produced by some sort of magical process( thus far by ever bigger public and private debt, QE and rising taxation) But in fact the cake per person has been getting smaller and smaller for 15 years. Meanwhile we trash and deliberately hobble any economy’s main generator of energy, innovation, productivity increase and entrepreneurialism and willingness to get dirty. Young men.

  2. This is a tragic case https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/in-your-area/lanarkshire/teenage-lorry-driver-caused-death-37054322? Also reported in the Telegraph which tells us ‘Sommerville made headlines weeks before the fatal incident when she spoke about championing women and girls in the heavy plant industry.” One can’t help thinking that the push and cudos of getting a female in a “male dominated’ occupation led those in charge to overestimate her abilities and push her out before she was properly ready. As we know from research in education females are routinely overestimated on such a wide scale that it looks like deep seated cultural bias. Add in a particular feminist driven push to be seen to employ females in male dominated’ industries and it’s easy to see how such a young woman might find herself in over her ability and experience. It’s one of the more subtle ways DEI undermines standards , the favoured group is not held to the same standards to achieve targets.
