Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Bulgaria, the Baltic states are all examples of eventually getting tough on illegal immigration. The specifics vary but they are all very proactive. In common they have a very clear idea of wanting to be Polish, Danish, Latvian etc. and concerned about rapid cultural change and falling birthrates. Like Hungary they also have histories, often quite recent, of occupation and subjugation. There are in fact plenty of examples within the EU and ECHR of effective border control. Labour talk about Denmark because it is pretty strict and proactive yet is “left”. As this report says it should be a doddle for us “with a moat”. That it isn’t is entirely due to political will, the EU, ECHR etc. are simply excuses.
