  1. Very interesting. The coverage of the Parliamentary Committee is revealing as it illustrated how little of our public policy is influenced by data and facts. Rather than celebrity opinions. It must be 20 years since I read a comment from Michael Kimmel a prominent feminist who then ran programmes in high schools on dating abuse. He observed that if those doing this work didn’t listen to and respect the perspectives and tribulations of the boys they’d be “perceived as telling lies”. Well of course they didn’t and Kimmel’s warning was prophetic as young men do see they are told lies, and reject “gender equality” because that’s not what is on offer. The second prophetic moment was when Mary Curnock Cook had approached the educational establishment about the poor educational outcomes for boys and received the answer that nothing would be done as a deliberate policy to handicap boys in their employment prospects to advance girls.

As is pointed out the two “freak show” productions simply sensationalise for views. While Kemp’s series does have some actual data and evidence. If it is true that there have been 17 instances of “incel” or “misogynist” murders across the world (and in our anecdotal media that usually means the English speaking world) it makes them vanishingly rare things, even the USA alone will have had about 40,000 murders in that time, and contrary to our perception the USA is no where near high in the league table of murders in the “world”.

Of course few seem to grasp that it might just be a good idea to be encouraging and responding to young men’s concerns and the insanity of telling teenagers “don’t look at ……” And then being amazed they looked.
