Interesting.

  1. “less essential” is typically British understatement! After all this feminist government is passing a bill to ensure family courts don’t assume both parents are important to their children. As the minister says a move to “lift women up”. Way back in the 1970s labour Gov. Harriet Harman and colleagues were quite open in “The Family Way” that “the family” is “a mother and her children” and that public policy should make it easy to dispense with fathers. And of course successive governments have done just that. Even “conservative” ones where ministers have subsequently said how the benefits system is designed in this way by their officials working with pressure groups in contravention of the ministers themselves. In effect wanting to be benevolent to women and children has been twisted to achieve the marginalisation of fathers, except as “wallets”.

  2. I note Bindel has a piece in Spiked on Grooming Gangs. Isn’t it fascinating that she’s a bit of a lone voice on this in feminist circles. While the loudly feminist Sistas in Labour are effectively stalling the public enquiry ! It seems their feminism doesn’t go as far as upsetting potential voter block votes. If you look into the history of this issue you find that the Sikh and Indian(Hindu) communities were early in protecting their girls, while “Tommy Robinson” was being pursued by police for trying to do the same. Communities that were not “fatherless” stepped in. While the gangs targeted white girls (and boys) “in care” or “chaotic families”. In other words those from the most fatherless areas of our society.

After decades of large numbers of “fatherless” families the research shows the damage that results, in crime, cycles of abuse, mental health, suicide, unemployment…. Yet our political leaders resolutely pursue the family as “a mother and her children”.

  3. This both wound me up and amused me. Do single mothers raise toxic sons? | The Standard First of all the writer notes that, apparently, the supposed Toxic “influencers” on Theroux’s programme all had “single mothers”. Then goes on to list all the evidence correlating family breakdown with all manner of social ills. This is funny because effectively she reminds us of all the links!

The bit that winds me up, as the product of a single mother family myself, is the donning of the sacred cape of victimhood “single mother” when in fact she is nothing of the sort! My mother was single by virtue of my father dying suddenly, left with two boys, 8 and 4 to bring up without their dad and her husband. Rebecca Cox is most definitely not a single mother because; “and my son does have an involved father he sees regularly”. In other words her son has a father who no doubt is an influence in his life and contributes to the “family” finances. All that’s happened is she doesn’t want to live with the father! (or possibly vice versa).
