Our thanks to Nigel for this. He writes:
“A classic case of a female tactic of “reputation destruction” as not only Dr Heather Bacon arrogantly castigate a supporter of the University’s she: “Dr Heather Bacon sent an email to a small number of individuals – that email contained accusations of racism against David Haythornthwaite. Those accusations were wrong and unfounded.” Mr. Haythornthwaite had the resources and will to call out this tactic in the courts and won a public apology and compensation (he wanted paid to charity). Behind this case is the fact that DEI initiatives, increasing the proportion of female veterinary students over the past couple of decades, has created a shortage of veterinarians in rural areas. Because the female vets, understandably, prefer urban practices dealing with pets and leave the profession or go part time in much greater numbers than men. But three cheers for Mr. Haythornthwaite for fighting back.”
