  1. In Britain Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT has been made widely available to those diagnosed with depression and anxiety. A decade ago I was prescribed a course of this therapy for depression (though in fact I suspect it was anxiety I was suffering. It was immensely because its basic mantra was that your “feelings trick the body” and what you need are strategies to shift your mood by getting perspective and doing things that improve your feelings. Being active was absolutely key to this with lots of forms of exercise advised. At the last session, talking to my female therapist she commented that her male clients generally responded much better than females and put into practice their “programme”. At the time I could see that in the context that one left with a sort of toolbox to address your “illness” in practical ways. So more in a “masculine frame of practical self help. I suspect a “gap” for women is that there isn’t a sort of referral system to introduce them to chosen activities, in my experience men are far more likely to “turn up” on their own to try or join a new thing. Women need to go with a “friend” or group they know to a fresh activity. Anyway a comment about a form of therapy here and its strong link to physical exercise/activity.
