Interesting. The article writer, Alison Comyn, is a Fianna Fáil Senator for Louth, Ireland.

  1. Good for her. In the current climate it is always good when a woman raises this issue because its less easy to shut her up. The piece is very well put and researched. What a tragedy it is over 45 years since Erin Pizzey made the same observations as she tried to open her refuge for men.

  2. On a lighter note this appeared on my page. ‘My partner is so irresponsible that it’s making me feel like their mum’ – Irish Mirror Online Expecting it to be yet another piece on how young men are useless I was surprised in fact it is a woman complaining about her female “partner”. It is actually quite funny as the writer could well be a man writing about his girlfriend. “I’m the one who works, studies, saves for the future, and plans everything.” and “She’s 37 and still lives a ‘day-to-day’ life, staying at her brother’s place where she doesn’t have to lift a finger. She has zero savings and no real ambition to build a life with me that requires any effort. She just expects me to handle all the ‘grown-up’ stuff.” will sound familiar to many a man. While the clincher is “The woman also said her partner is leaving her emotionally exhausted too as she ‘dumps her insecurities on her’. “Stuff about being jealous for no reason, or crying because she feels I don’t love her enough,”” I think any man with a female wife/partner will absolutely relate to that! Much is said about the need for men to “share” their feelings and vulnerabilities. Which may be a good idea, but is never going to happen because he’ll get precious little chance to say anything, let alone actually be listened to!
