Justice for Men & Boys 
I’ve seen this current decline taking place for many years. We need to take our cue from Poland, which is becoming one of the most formidable military powers in Europe. I’m glad we’re unlikely ever to be at war with Poland. I don’t fancy our chances. Turkey is another formidable military, if we judge solely by how many planes, ships, tanks and so on they have. (I once saw a list online, but I’ve lost the reference) Luckily for us, they’re in NATO, so to that extent at least we’re on the same side. This has happened before. In the thirties the British armed forces were allowed to decline, because of a “peace in our time” mind set. We know what happened in September of 1939. Be prepared. Or, as the Romans used to say: se vis pacem, para bellum. If you want peace, prepare for war.

Exactly. And not just external threats. While out for lunch there was an “incident” a young man staying at the adjacent Hotel had clearly taken a narcotic and the restaurant manager called the police. An officer arrived and took the man into custody followed by the arrival of a further marked car and a police van and minibus. We were treated to half an hours “entertainment” by 7 police officers. The arrested man was put in the van. While a couple of the officers went into the Hotel. All the time three of female officers simply stood about chatting. Now the two male officers literally towered over the 5 females, as did the man. Though this was all peaceful it sort of reminded me of the Manchester Airport incident when two young men batted aside two female officers like children leaving the single male officer fighting the two of them and subduing the most violent.
There are no minimum height requirements for Police, nor much enforcement of fitness. Because of course they can’t have different height and fitness standards for men and women. By law.
One can see why the Police might prefer to arrest street preachers, trawl through tweets and investigate “non crime hate incidents”. If the alternative is being on the streets stop and searching burley teenagers with machetes, as filmed in a report on ITV news about knife crime in Birmingham.
I had two friends join the police at the begining of the 1980s, they just reached the then height requirement. Height added to by the tall helmet. Later dealing with the “riots” and then miners strike they had to don armour and a very heavy full body height shield. Always smartly turned out they “looked the part” and I’m sure this had some deterrent effect. Somehow the young WPCs I saw sort of buried by their stab vest and utility harness, one with her hair held in place by a sparkly comb grip didn’t look like she’d deter anything. Our Police “services” run the risk of being like in Sweden where decades of serving a law abiding homogeneous population and pursuing equality left them ill prepared for the crimewave they’re battling now. A wave from people clearly completely undeterred.

I guess this is how a civilisation declines. Well intentioned fools take over, convinced all along they’re doing the right thing. The decline begins in laughter (for those who see the joke) but ends in tears.

Except non wore a cap. Including all three fiddling with their phones. I’m old fashioned enough to think huge false eyelashes, filled lips and glittery hair clasps are not appropriate on duty.
