Another week in Thailand, a paradise for Western men.

I’ve had a very enjoyable two weeks in Thailand, with the good people of XY Crew. Paul Elam was on great form, and we’ve agreed to co-author a book. I’ve started work on another, my 11th, both should be out in the coming six months.

It’s been so enjoyable, a number of us have decided to extent our stay in Pattaya, a very vibrant city with thousands of bars (though I’ve been in none of them, having given up alcohol two months ago). It’s a quite remarkable thing to be smiled at in the street by beautiful young women rather than be to glared at by them, which has long been the norm in the West. The Thai people on the whole appear to be happy, if poor by Western standards.

Thailand is a terrific destination for an economical holiday. I’m staying in a very comfortable room with aircon – an essential! – in a modern hotel with a large outdoor swimming pool costing £15pn. You can even get a terrific full English breakfast in the city for under £5.00. We may go to Vietnam next year, which is highly regarded and even cheaper than Thailand.

Andy’s done a first-class job of looking after this website since I left and he’s kindly agreed to continue for another week. I’ll be taking over again on Monday, 24 November.

  1. I’m glad you are enjoying yourself as well as working for the benefit of society, Mike.

If Thai people are generally happy, I would say they are the ones with real wealth regardless of being financially poor by Western standards.
