Lewes FC, ‘woke’ football club, begs fans for £120,000 to escape going bust after becoming the only team to pay their women’s team the same as their men.

Our thanks to Graham for this (Mail, £). Quelle surprise. The teams play at The Dripping Pan. Doubtless some well-off chivalrous men will get the money together to get the club out of the s**t for the time being.

Not one women’s football team in the world is self-financing, on account of how few people are willing to pay money to watch slow and unskilled teams playing football (understandably). All the women’s teams are parasites on the associated men’s teams, and the same is true for other sports. From a recent online article about the 2025 Euro championships:

“However, the event was not financially worthwhile for UEFA. According to blue Sport information, UEFA is expecting a loss of 20 to 25 million euros. In comparison: the 2024 European Men’s Championship brought the European Football Union a whopping 1.2 billion euros in profit. [J4MB: £1.05 billion, £1,050,000,000.] “The financial result of this European Championship will ultimately be more positive than expected. But it’s not a loss, it’s an investment,” says Nadine Kessler.” [J4MB: In the same sense that buying shares in a company established to manufacture paper teapots would be an “investment”.]

The Lewes FC women’s team were relegated from the Women’s Championship, the second tier, last year.

The solution for Lewes FC is obvious. Get rid of the women’s team, and let women fund it. Women are allegedly strong and amazing so it’s time they started to pay for their own sports.

  1. I have no doubt some chivalrous male benefactor will step in. I’ve just read yet another piece, this one from Australia about the “gender pay gap” there. Nothing new of course the gap is because of mother’s tend to want to have time off and work less; and men and women tend to choose different occupations (“gender segregation”) and even in female dominated occupations tend to earn more, partly because on average they work 10% more hours! And take a risk in seeking more responsibility. Perhaps unsurprisingly the most gender segregated occupations are the male dirty,dangerous,unsocial hours occupations. And of course women wisely choose public sector occupations that more easily accommodate time off and part time work. The Swedes had a go at this a decade or so ago, the “solution” was to get Swedish men to work less and be less ambitious (compulsory paternity leave and exhortations to curtail their commitment to working hours) Largely failed because of course one of the drivers of male commitment to work is precisely the fact their female partners are likely to want “family friendly” flexible working and someone has to make up the difference.! And of course men mainly work in the private sector occupations where becoming less efficient and productive has dire consequences in a competitive world. In effect the failed Swedish policy is the same as Lewes. Ignore “the market” and go broke. Because the feminist mantra (repeated here since the 1970s ) simply ignores the reality and imagine’s magnanimous benefactors will simply pay out no matter how unproductive the business /country. Currently in the UK the nations magnanimous benefactors for the declining productivity of our female dominated public sector are the tax payer ( mainly male) and lenders to our ballooning debt. Lewes football club is just a microcosm of the same fanciful economics.
