16- and 17-year-olds to be able to vote in next general election

Scandalous. Extracts:

“In Britain’s traditional two-party system, this is an age group that would be very likely to vote Labour and very unlikely to vote Conservative…

The prime minister’s official spokesman said today that he totally rejected any claims that the timing of this announcement is about politics.”

  1. In Britain today, schoolboys can be unjustly accused of ‘misogyny’ and other thoughtcrimes in trial by Netflix.

Schoolgirls can be found guilty of cultural crime by wearing a Geri Halliwell Union Jack dress. Any fears they may have about grooming gangs or ‘honour killings’ are ignored, as erosion of Labour margins would inevitably result.

This game isn’t over. Youngsters will always be tomorrow’s voter base. They do have concerns, and Nigel could address them.

  2. This reminds me of a quote attributed to Mark Twain about the “wisdom” of young people. “When I was 14 my Dad was so stupid that I could hardly bear to be around him, but by the time I was 21 I was amazed at what the old boy had learned in 7 years.”
