For over 20 years it has been clear from “time use ” surveys used in Economics that in the “west” there is little difference in total “work” (paid and unpaid) for men and women. Hence a proliferation of forms of “emotional work” to maintain the fiction of the “patriarchy”. As usual in this case the modus operandi is to posit some loosely defined concept and seek funding and attention for “further research”, usually of the focus group/ethnomethodology type which will never bother asking any men. For me the key point Nuzzo points out is “public funding”. For it is tax payer money that will fund this sort of thing as there is no commercial interest in such things. This is even more so in the UK than USA given so much research is funded through “research councils” Quangos dispensing public money to University Research. Guided of course by the WAWG Strategy.
In the real world of course we are still in a situation where women remain far more interested in “bagging their man” and getting married than men. And their chief interest in every dating, social attitudes survey, advertising campaign and so on is: to feel safe and feel secure and “supported”, to have a man who is tall, ambitious, intelligent, able to provide material security and give her “options” and “choices”. If you think of it rather a big list, suggesting husbands do a lot of “work” in providing all these things.

Meanwhile some actual science finds there are differences between the sexes inherent in their biology Women are twice as likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s as men. Scientists have figured out why | The Independent Not “gender” nor “the patriarchy” but boring old biology. You know that thing that’s almost completely irrelevant because gender is performative.
