  1. Harassment of gender-critical academics creating barriers to research” Fascinating isn’t it that there is a rush to defend feminist academics when the tactics described are precisely those used by feminist academics themselves. ” activist-led campaigns to flourish, leading to harassment, reputational attacks and the marginalisation of scholars with gender-critical views.” Take out “gender-critical” and add in “non feminist” or even “empiricist science” or “facts” even and you can think of any number of examples where feminists have gleefully created barriers to research and free speech.

After all which set of academics have introduced “Advocacy Research” (research that is purposely designed to support an ideological view), “ways of knowing” (from imaginary notions of what celtic witches or obscure Pacific tribes shamans understand about the world to any women’s group “feels” is true), “lived experience” (the subjective impressions of a couple of people assumed to be “facts” about all people), doing away with “patriarchal” scientific method (in favour of something easy to do) Declare “facts” make people feel unsafe (anything not in line with the ideology is de facto “violence” against women) Maths is oppression (because its hard to do).

In short I chortle with the irony. Sadly I doubt the recommendations “Prof Sullivan’s review makes 20 recommendations. Among them are that universities should uphold viewpoint diversity, maintain institutional neutrality on contested political issues, take active steps to protect researchers from harassment and fully implement the Office for Students’ recent regulatory advice about the need for free speech on campuses.” worthy though they are. Will actually be followed by the “gender-critical” feminists to stop their harassment of men and women academics who don’t tow the feminists’ (“gender studies”) line.
