Danny Cohen: “Is the BBC now a mouthpiece for terrorists?”

Interesting (Telegraph, £). Danny Cohen was the director of BBC Television (2013-15) and among the points he makes about the BBC’s hour-long propaganda piece about Gaza is this:

Questions must also be asked about the BBC’s consistent mistranslation of the word “Yehudis” as “Israelis” when it actually means “Jews”. This allowed the broadcaster to mask anti-Semitic statements made in the programme, misleading audiences further.

Billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Man Utd co-owner, asks women’s captain Katie Zelem, ‘what do you do here?’

Enjoy. The Times reports here (£) that Ratcliffe didn’t watch Zelem lift the Women’s FA Cup after United beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at Wembley in May last year as he chose to watch the men’s side play Arsenal in the Premier League instead. Understandable.

BBC faces questions over its Gaza propaganda film’s Hamas link

Our thanks to Ken for this piece on the BBC. It starts with this:

“The culture secretary has said she will raise concerns with BBC bosses about a documentary on Gaza that was narrated by the son of a Hamas official.

The broadcaster has been criticised for Gaza: How To Survive A War Zone, which centred on a 13-year-old boy who is the son of Hamas’s deputy minister of agriculture.”
