A piece in The Law Society Gazette. Cohabitation reform will be a gravy train for lawyers, as divorce has long been, as women leave their cohabiting partners with a view to fleecing them financially (the women having often contributed little or nothing towards the couple’s combined assets). We’ve been warning for some time that this government will introduce cohabitation reform, one of a number of concessions made to radical feminists. An extract:
“A cross-party group of MPs has applied gentle pressure on the government to confirm the timetable for cohabitation reform following a 2024 manifesto pledge to strengthen the rights and protections of women [J4MB emphasis] in cohabiting relationships.”

Given that there is either Civil Partnership or Religious or Registrar Marriage it’s not like there aren’t options if one wants to make a partnership “legal”. Introducing a form of “common law marriage” is going to create a lawyers paradise even around the apparently simple facts about what sort of “living together” constitutes such, how long? Does it have to have a sexual aspect? And when did it begin and how do we know it ended? Given the number of lawyers in Parliament I’m sure it will pass as they can’t fail to see the possibilities..
i suppose they are at least honest. It’s not about the rights of people or indeed children, but about “women” and in reality women who haven’t been a partner but have coasted .

what I find interesting is that they dont ask themselves why people won’t take up these options and prefer cohabitation.
so.. instead of introducing major reform in the family court system( to cover marriage, children and cohabitation ) to ensure protection of all parties, they would rather try to punish more men and fathers..
.. then they all moan about why is the birth rate and marraige rate dropping…
