Our thanks to Sue for alerting us to what she described as “literally Bindel’s gerzillionth article about (female) prostitution.” I can’t read it myself, being blocked by Bindel from subscribing to her publications. Oh dear, how sad, never mind. All her articles – on this and other gender-related issues – are tired repetitions of what she’s written so many times before.
There’s an irony here, of course, in that (female) prostitution is the clearest evidence we have of women’s power over men. Of course Bindel doesn’t want to draw attention to that reality, in part because it’s a power she and other lesbian radical feminists (the late Andrea Dworkin comes inevitably to mind) don’t (and didn’t) enjoy over men.
Female prostitution isn’t an issue we’ve covered much, though we still expect Starmer to introduce legislation introducing the “Scandinavian model” of prostitution – criminalising men who avail themselves of the services of female prostitutes, never criminalising the women themselves.
For the naked truth about female prostitution, I’ll restrict myself to linking to an interview Elizabeth Hobson and I had with the estimable Clara (“Miss Matthews”) at ICMI20, Miss Matthews – “My 25 Wonderful Years as a Sex Worker” (video, 39:24).
