Elon Musk says Jess Phillips deserves to be in prison. A good point, well made.

Interesting (Spectator, £). Related tweets here. Phillips is the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls.

Not long after becoming an MP in 2015, she infamously tried (but thankfully failed) to deny Philip Davies (C, Shipley) the opportunity to host the first debate in the House of Commons to commemorate International Men’s Day. The video of the meeting with her intervention – and Philip’s tenacious responses – is on our YouTube channel here (10:33). She has been known to laugh at the notion of male victims of domestic violence.

This actually sets out the history of this well. Jess is just repeating the way in which the issue is kept as a “local” issue for “northern” towns. Yet in fact the same thing occurs all over the country, often in surprising places. As in the partial list in this article. Oldham is led by a minority labour group, when for years it was, like so many such boroughs, a labour stronghold. Precisely because of the disquiet at the Councils perceived complicity in covering up the abuse. Jess simply is willing to bat it back because to do otherwise risks exposing the links with Rochdale, Rotherham, Telford …….. And all the other cases across the country.

It is now over a decade since I had some safeguarding responsibilities and received Home office briefings that were quite specific about the cultural groups ( from the borderlands of Pakistan and Afghanistan) that were leading. This sort of information seems to have been successfully kept out of public debate for a long time. And the press still report Rotherham or Rochdale or now Oldham as if these are just localised.

Jess is clearly not going worry about the girls, women and in fact boys who are predated upon. Her much trumpeted virtue shown as a sham.
