Saoirse Ronan says reaction to women’s safety comment is ‘wild’

Our thanks to Nigel for this. He writes:

“No amount of facts about this (for instance that young men are far the most at risk of violent crimes than young women) will prevent a huge queue of luminaries of both sexes “supporting” all manner of action. Based on the “fears” of women rather than the evidence. And of course no one will even consider that males should have the same expectation of never even having to think of their safety because they are invulnerable, even though they are far more likely to be assaulted or killed. Gynocentrism.

And what does Saoirse base her comment on, conversations around the dinner table, not about actual experiences but things the women do when they are “suspicious” The fake phone call refers to someone who suspects they are being followed by a potential attacker, and pretends to take a call on their mobile to protect themselves. Could it simply be “suspecting” someone reflects her feelings rather than anything about the “suspect”? I’m certain had any of the male panel mentioned precautions they may have taken they’d be basically treated as “wimps” even though they’d be wiser to do so given the actual stats.”

Stacey Smith, North West Ambulance Service worker who tried to murder her boss as she left for work, jailed for 20 YEARS

Our thanks to Nigel for this. At last, a woman receiving a sentence commensurate with her crime – by a female judge, interestingly. The performance of ambulance services has deteriorated since it became yet another female-dominated workplace. An extract:

The trial had heard that the attack came after Smith had harboured ‘resentment and hatred’ towards Ms Morton, an operations manager for North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

Ms Morton began to manage Ms Smith, an ambulance care assistant, in 2017. She also managed Ms Smith’s wife, another NWAS worker.

Ms Bennett said: “On first impression, Ms Morton found Ms Smith to be a pleasant person, and even a potential friend. Their relationship deteriorated however around the time of Covid 19 and the pandemic.

“There was a need for drastic changes to the way NWAS worked. An argument ensued about shift patterns. Stacey Smith filed a formal grievance. The crux of the issue was Stacey Smith and her wife wished to work together and share non-working days.

“Allowances were made [J4MB: why?!!!] and it seemed as though the matter was at an end, but then the issue of shift patterns arose again.” Smith’s trial heard that the issue went on for ‘several months’.
