James Esses: “The Financial Times has been CAPTURED. Part 1 in my trilogy on how major institutions have lost their way.”

A piece by James Esses for Matt Goodwin’s Substack.

It was many years ago that I realised the FT had been “captured”. Nobody at the paper – including Lionel Barber, the editor over 2005-20 – had the slightest interest in the causal link between increasing gender diversity on boards and corporate financial decline. In 2018 we had the ridiculous spectacle of the President’s Club closing after the FT’s confected outrage at the alleged behaviour of some businessmen at an all-male evening, with respect to the “hostesses”.

  1. I see the FT is immersed in the pronoun mire. Much to my surprise I see the trans debacle has popped up in the Disability Olympics. Transgender runner Valentina Petrillo creates history after qualifying for final in 400 meters at Paralympic Games | Paris Paralympics News – Times of India (indiatimes.com)Yet another blow to the idea biology has nothing to do with men’s and women’s differing roles. At 51 this former man competes with “cis” women half his/her age. But then “gender” is just a social construct imposed by that secretive brotherhood of power hungry men “the Patriarchy” otherwise women and men would be interchangeable. Who knew a 51 year old para Olympian would be smashing the Patriarchy ? I suppose the FT would say a quick change of pronouns and hey presto!
