BBC: “Misogyny to be treated as extremism by UK government”

Our thanks to MF for this. The start of the piece:

Extreme misogyny will be treated as a form of extremism under new government plans, the Home Office has said.

Yvette Cooper, the home secretary, has ordered a review of the UK’s counter-extremism strategy to determine how best to tackle threats posed by harmful ideologies, with the exception of feminism.

The analysis will look at hatred of women as one of the ideological trends that the government says is gaining traction.”

We may have added a few words there, but they’re surely implied. We understand Jess Phillips MP will lead the “review”.

  1. Tim Stanley exemplifies the problem in this https://youtu.be/lQvWHa5g57o?si=jlSI71pjPxGLNGQc Telegraph podcast on the topic. A member of the aristocratic (Earl’s of Derby) Lancashire and Cheshire family he exudes the sort of upper class hauteur that regards all the political to be a game. Here he happily takes on board the notion that violence against women and girls is some epidemic and Andrew Tate a magical Svengali. To impress us with his concern for women and girls, a white knight in every inch of his being. Bizarrely its Ella Whelan, feminist, that points out women are not routinely murdered or attacked or even wolf whistled and that Tim’s white knightery is both childish and presumes women are simply fragile beings in need of his protection. Truly the sheer remoteness of this man who has never done a real job is illustrated by his contention that he has every right to call the police if his neighbour plays loud music. Maybe things are different in the home counties but round here the Police are not about mobilize themselves about neighbour nuisance unless some actual physical assault has occured. But then if you live alone with your dog and are a columnist, maybe you get the star treatment. No wonder the Conservatives stood idly by while the socialists and feminists dismantled society on their watch. Blind to the serious intent Tim airily wonders if Evette is just spouting hot air, while it is feminist Whelan who points out this is about extending state control and silencing people through fear.
