Cheese-rolling is a British sport, thought to have originated at least 600 years ago. The 2024 competition took place two days ago, the video here (9:00).

I was intrigued to see this article in yesterday’s Times (£). The headline was “I am the cheese-rolling champion – again. Now for the hard part.” A CBS video (2:13) is titled, “North Carolina woman wins British cheese-rolling contest for second time”.

So, has American Abbey Lempe, 23, (literally) stumbled upon an activity where women compete successfully at the top level, even if it’s basically falling down a hillside? Er, no. Of course not. She won the women’s race, although you wouldn’t learn that until you reach the tenth paragraph in the Times article.

Steve Brule is doing a great job of re-uploading the first series of The Fiamengo File to his current YouTube channel. He’s uploaded 38 of the original 130+ videos to the new TFF playlist so far, I’ve just enjoyed watching again episode #36, The Gender Equity Boondoggle (14:09), largely about feminist corruption of her alma mater, the University of Ottawa, but of course of relevance to universities across the world. It was published in 2016, the same year Janice spoke at the first ICMI in London, giving a well-received speech titled How Feminism is Destroying Higher Education (45:05).

Outrageous. The start of the Guardian piece:

“Angela Rayner has been cleared of any potential criminal wrongdoing over claims she avoided tax over the sale of a home, with Greater Manchester police saying it would take no action against the Labour deputy leader.

In a statement, the force said any claims she avoided capital gains tax or council tax would not fall under their jurisdiction, [J4MB: If that’s the case, why did they start an investigation weeks ago? Did they not know the matter didn’t “fall under their jurisdiction”? Absurd.] and that they had shared details of their investigation with the local council, Stockport, and HMRC. Neither of these plan to take action either. [J4MB: Quelle surprise.]”

Give me strength (Mail, £). The Flyfishers’ Club will probably surrender to the miserable passive-aggressive harpies – parasites, one and all – as the Garrick Club did recently.

I was an angler for 30+ years, for many of those years a fly fisherman, and I never once encountered a female angler. Fishing is for men who need to get away from their wives and kids for a time. Why can’t the tiny number of female anglers form their own miserable club? The Female Flyfishers’ Club, maybe?
