Our thanks to Gerry for this. The headline should surprise nobody. I am constantly reminded how many jobs done by women (often under the label of ‘admin’) take little or no personal judgment and could therefore readily be automated.

i really hope that AI replaces HR because frankly AI couldn’t do any worse.
unfortunately I would be more concered if AI replaced the DEI officers because we have already seen the bias in chatgpt, gemini etc.
but can only hope that companies that foolishy chose these AIs instead of merit will as they say … go woke, go broke

In the latter years of my career a lot of the “admin” roles disappeared because of microsoft office, as lots of tasks from scheduling to report writing can be done using tech. even without AI. So its not a stretch to see more sophisticated tech. doing away with even more. It would not surprise me to find this results in even more women crowding into childcare, social care and even health care. Which will compete with the people imported to provide workforces for these sectors. The logic is of course that a plentiful workforce will mean downward pressure on wages and maybe the dreaded “gender wage gap”. What all the research indicates is there won’t be a female rush to do the huge range of jobs that keep modern life going. Way back in the late 80s and 90s there was a sort of crowing about the collapse of industries “dominated” by men. And indeed in NI the North East of England there were years where the “gender pay gap” was actually in females favour. As industry collapsed and the economies were dependent on public sector jobs.

Of course still can’t acknowledge that rather than a “crisis in masculinity” there is simply discrimination against boys and young men.
