Women’s state pension payout fight nears end

Absurd. Where is the compensation for men forced to retire later than women for so long, despite (a) men dying earlier than women, on average, and (b) men paying almost 75% of the income tax which largely pay for state pensions?

    • Yes I saw this and was pleased Mr. Lau had taken out the case. After all the supposed “injustice” had ended in 1966! It looks like the law is similar to that in England and Wales. I doubt Mr. Lau will win, but it is good the case makes clear that it is not legal to directly discriminate against men (in this case deny them part of the exhibition which they have paid for). This seems to be conceded by MOMA because their defense is that the art installation is “experienced” in different ways my male and female ticket holders, as an intention of the “art”. Of course if this had been an ordinary service (cafe, leisure centre, airliner, hotel etc. etc.) then it would be direct discrimination and illegal.

Mr. Lau deserves credit for highlighting this, despite the MOMA attempt to trivialise his complaint and no doubt opprobrium from “white knights”.

  1. It is forgotten that the equalization was because British Courts and the European Court for Human Rights ruled it was high time the inequality was ended. The first fruits of these cases was that men could no longer be denied state funded “concessions” till 65 (buss passes etc.) And that there had to be a timetable to quickly rectify what was blatant sex discrimination on the state pension. The Ombudsman’s recommendations on compensation are far more modest than the WASPIs are claiming through the courts. So I expect in reality all parties will be focused on the Court cases.

As you say no one countenanced the truly epic amounts of money it would take to compensate men for decades of denying their equality.

  2. Women still have an advantage over men. On average women live 3-5 years longer than men. That’s an extra 3-5 years of pension benefits.
