REUTERS: Germany announces new “feminist foreign policy”

Our thanks to Gerry for this. He writes:
“Going forward, at least 8% of Germany’s 12 billion euros ($12.8 billion) of development funds will go to projects with gender equality as their main goal, while 85% must have it as their secondary goal, the development ministry announced.” So 93% of Germany’s development funds will have to benefit women. Male losers can have the rest.

  1. Just on a practical point how can they sort this out on the ground? If the build a dam for power, or a road, or wells, or improve coffee yield etc, how exactly are they going to sort out the % benefit according to sex? Pretty impossible so probably lots of dubious stats.
No the truth is the 8% will be spent on the Domestic Violence industry in various countries across the world . And as usual the practical effect will be more employment for privileged women, first of all in Germany’s embassies, and then in recipient countries who will know to turn up to meetings with the German diplomatic corps with a goodly sprinkling of “token” women to fulfil the criteria.
And as the Swedes found the result will be resentment from those countries, as the German’s message will be “you’re a bunch of abusers of your children and women, in need of changing your ways by doing as we tell you”. Even if it were true, its hardly a good opening to making friends and influencing people!

  2. A hot topic still in Europe, though now largely ignored in our media, the war in Ukraine exposes the truth of the disposable Male. As the professor says the choices are “who do we protect? And who do we sacrifice?” And the answer is women and children protected and “people” sacrificed, the gender neutral tone slips when she points out the need for more “manpower”. A million “people” have volunteered or been “called up” since the invasion but there is need for more “man power”. The the key point being debated seems to be how young should the conscription go, go too young to include the “young people” (by now we know this really means young men) and this may be a problem because they will be needed to rebuild Ukraine. All the time we know that millions of the women and children are safe abroad. Of course its impossible to concieve of reversing the sexes, to be consider how young we can go to sacrifice female people to leave enough young female people to rebuild. The point isn’t that we should do the reverse to show equality, but to show how quickly when the chips are down, males become not men but “soldiers” “people” “increased manpower”. To be disposable human doings pretty much assumed to be those to be “sacrificed”. I expect there are few indeed in Ukraine challenging this “stereotypical gender norm”. https://www.france24.com/en/tv-shows/perspective/20240205-war-in-ukraine-who-are-we-trying-to-protect-and-who-are-we-ready-to-sacrifice

  3. I see nothing has changed with the German feminists. They will continue to throw worldwide “good money after bad”.
I was part of an organisation long time ago in the far east that supported local women rights( and in turn their men rights) An organisation that was based in religion as well.
My ex wife told me that these feminists( predominately German feminists) would visit the organisation( and others like it), spout off and throw lots of money around. The organisation members would be polite, but behind their back they would laugh at them, because they didn’t like others telling them what to do( rather akin to the “coloniser” stereotype that others use as a label), take their money and carry on as usual.

I would view this cynically as just another form of “trade” promotion disguised as altruism. I see it being no better than the UNRWA. Germany has enough problems in the economy that they should be focusing on their own people first, and by that I mean everyone, regardless of gender.
