Let’s build a memorial to the Navy’s slave trade busters, says PENNY MOURDAUNT, who warns truth is in danger of being lost forever

Our thanks to Gerry for this. At last, some common sense from the silly woman. I was in the public gallery (alone) one International Men’s Day when the Speaker announced the next debate would be in commemoration of IMD. There were maybe 120 MPs in the chamber before the announcement, and 14 shortly afterwards. Penny Mordaunt exited the chamber with a speed I wouldn’t have thought possible.

  1. As Thomas Sowell says, the really remarkable thing about slavery is why it was abolished and actively suppressed in the early and mid 18th Century. Until then it had been a given in human history practiced in various forms in all known societies and rarely ever questioned. As he says this dramatic change in the British Empire that went on to become part of the notion of universal human rights, we now take for granted, really does merit study and celebration as a dramatic change in human history.

    • Thanks Groan. The only slavery trade the BBC ever refers to is the Transatlantic slave trade, because whitey, and they manage to mention it at the slightest excuse. Never any criticisms of the Black Africans who kidnapped the people from other tribes, nor the Arabs who transported them to the ports. Never a mention that the reason there aren’t substantial black populations in Muslim countries (which took more slaves than the Transatlantic trade) is that the black men were castrated en route. Some reports say most died as a result. Thomas Sowell essential reading on this.

Of course the BBC rarely mentions people like William Wilberforce who campaigned successfully for an end to the slave trade, because they were devils in the BBC’s eyes – white Christian men.
