Banksy: Police investigate removal of street sign in Peckham as alleged theft

An interesting piece posted by the BBC two hours ago. It includes video and photographs of two young black men stealing a street sign created by Banksy. Why it’s an “alleged” theft, one can only speculate. Either it reflects the BBC’s disinclination to attributing crimes to black people, or Banksy (a seasoned media manipulator) staged the theft for publicity purposes. An extract from the piece:
One man, carrying a banana, held a Lime bike steady for another, who reached up and cut the artwork free.
“… carrying a banana”?!!! Heads will roll at the BBC for this racial insensitivity, likewise for the photograph clearly showing it. Surely the man was only “allegedly” carrying a banana? Another extract, more in tune with the BBC’s unrelenting gender bias:
Banksy has installed other pieces this year including Valentine’s Day Mascara, a mural weighing 3.8 tonnes, which appeared on the side of a house in Margate, Kent, on Valentine’s Day. It depicted a 1950s housewife with a swollen eye and missing tooth, wearing an apron and yellow washing-up gloves, and throwing a man into a chest freezer. In September it was placed in the foyer of The Art of Banksy exhibition in central London, where it can be viewed for free.
