As always a lot of supposed reasons why women may make “bad ” choices in general. Some of the reasoning might easily apply to men, but of course they are always held responsible for their choices. In a way it’s appropriate the last case in the article illustrates the form of privilege such women enjoy. As the judge decides that a suspended sentence is in order.

Now in fact Roxanne Walker was a prison officer, with the power of the Crown over a man who would be locked in his cell for most of each day. She was in control. Can you imagine a Male prison officer persuading anyone that he was the “vulnerable” one in such a circumstance or that his feelings “being in love” would carry any weight or indeed being a father. It would be assumed that he should have resisted the charms of a prisoner and behaved as a professional.
It is as though in fact we still live in the world as in all the Hallmark Christmas romance movies.
