Four Weddings and a Funeral writer Richard Curtis says he was ‘stupid and wrong’ for way he wrote women and joked about people’s size in his films after being confronted by his own DAUGHTER

Our thanks to Gerry for this. He writes:
Will there ever come a time when writers will express regret for the way they write and joke about men? Probably not. Which just goes to show how high minded our intellectuals really are.
Curtis was also one of the two co-writers of The Vicar of Dibley, a comedy series which relentlessly portrayed men as buffoons.

  1. In both the Newspaper columns Bridget Jones Diaries and the later novel Helen Fielding wrote based on her Newspaper columns ; “Bridget not only obsesses about her love life, but also details her various daily struggles with her weight, her over-indulgence in alcohol and cigarettes, and her career”. It would have been pretty silly to ignore a major component of the plot and humor in the screenplay.
