  1. Well one problem is no doubt that the same illegal discrimination against Male applicants is endemic in the Prison service to meet “diversity targets”.

  2. It seems likely that the Prison service has also fallen foul of another pitfall of Equality legislation and recruitment. In order for the RAF to actually comply with the law they would have to apply the reduced standards to all new recruits. The most obvious examples of this are in the Fire Services and Police forces who some decade ago had to move from easier standards of fitness etc. For just women or BAME recruits(, illegal), to reducing standards in general in the hope that this will let a few more diversity hires. But in the process of course the whole recruitment and service standards becomes more and more compromised. This process is becoming evident in some police forces (for instance the “met” but also other forces) it seems likely the Prison services increasing ineffectiveness reflects this too.
