Justice for Men & Boys 
Good news indeed. Though it doesn’t yet mean the plan will be dropped. I was amused by this line “There is anger because some lawyers see this as an attempt to increase conviction rates in Scotland.” Amusing because the article at the end quotes the SNP minister of justice saying this is exactly what the policy is for! I would imagine all lawyers can see this is precisely an attempt to increase conviction rates, mainly because the Ministers involved have said that’s exactly what the Judge only trials are for and the measure of success of the pilot will be an increase in conviction rates. The gratifying part is that there are many lawyers in Scotland that can see this for what it is. And advocate the basic right for a fair trial. I note the very good point made that having only one judge removes the diversity of experience found in 15 (in Scotland) citizens. But of course that’s the point, having only “specially trained” Judges, trained to produce the desired result, more convictions.
