A tip of the hat to Terry White of Gender Parity UK for an email he’s sent to Emma Milne, Associate “Professor” in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice at Durham University. From her profile:
Emma is a feminist socio-legal scholar.
Yes, another otherwise unemployable parasite. The email concerns Kim Fawcett, Teaching Fellow in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice at the same university. Another parasite, in this case a public denier of Parental Alienation. Terry’s email:
Dear Dr Milne, We are concerned by the public assertion expressed by Kim Fawcett on the issue of parental alienation, considering that her public profile advertises her position at the Durham law school. https://twitter.com/KimFawcett11/status/1642106528135102464
We are concerned that her assertion conflicts with established case law (including ECHR judgements), the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, and the current state of scientific knowledge on this subject (eg https://psycnet.apa.org/record/2022-66868-001) with the following implications:
In any event, it seems the Durham Law School, and in particular its criminal and family law divisions, would benefit from education about parental alienation from psychologists involved with it, rather than from activist lawyers or from groups that benefit financially from gendered domestic abuse claims.
- Bringing the University law school into disrepute with unfounded public assertions that conflict with established law (and science) and her promotion of a form of domestic and child abuse;
- Bringing the University law school into disrepute with her rejection of evidence-led judgement of cases on their individual merits;
- Endangering public safety especially of victims, as her advertised false assertion that parental alienation will only be claimed by those guilty of domestic or sexual abuse is likely to incite violence against victims of parental alienation (a form of secondary abuse), for example as appears to be a motivation behind the recent double-murder of Joshua and Gary Danmore (https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/cambridgeshire-shootings-victims-were-father-and-son-with-custody-battle-motive-investigated/ar-AA19fyMF)
- Indicating a fixed ideological position and unfounded bias that is inconsistent with good research practice.
Male-typical domestic abuse victimisation patterns also seem to be of low priority / consideration in the Law School, and this tweet would seem an expression of explicit prejudice, which would seem to violate the University’s EDI policy and could lead its graduates into error.
We would be pleased to assist organising an event at the Law School to counter misconceptions and misinformation about parental alienation and male-typical domestic abuse victimisation. We’d also advise that the ‘Gender and Law at Durham’ (GLAD) project, which you share co-Directorship with Ms Fawcett, is unlikely to function as intended with fixed and unfounded ideology at the centre of its leadership, or with faulty research methods as its fundament.
Yours sincerely
Terrence White
